Teresa Cheng GBS SC JP FICE, FCIArb is a Senior Counsel, Chartered Engineer, Chartered Arbitrator and Accredited Mediator.

Ms Cheng commenced her practice at the Bar since 1987. In 2000, she was called to the inner Bar in Hong Kong. Her practice includes acting as counsel in court litigation in Hong Kong, as counsel / arbitrator in international arbitrations in Asia, Europe and US, and as dispute resolution practitioner.

Litigation
Ms Cheng has handled cases in diverse areas: different kinds of civil commercial, engineering, construction, personal injury, judicial review, arbitration related issues, investment and joint venture, regulatory (Telecommunications Authority & Broadcasting Authority), competition law, land law, public international law, constitutional law, WTO, agent on Government procurement, etc.. She has appeared in all levels of courts including Privy Council (prior to 1997) and the Court of Final Appeal in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

International Arbitration
She has acted as counsel or arbitrator in international arbitrations.  She has conducted arbitration in various jurisdictions in Europe, Asia , Middle East and US, and under various institutional rules such as Internatioal Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), London Court of Arbitration( LCIA), London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA), Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), International Air Transport Association (IATA), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Committee (CIETAC) and Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) etc.

Dispute Resolution
Ms Cheng has acted as mediator in many commercial and construction disputes. She has also been engaged in different capacity in resolving or avoiding disputes such as Dispute Resolution Advisor (DRAd), and Dispute Resolution Board (DRB) member.

 

Ms Cheng has been appointed on various important positions international. Some of her current offices held include:
• Executive Council Member of Asian Academy of International Law (AAIL);
• panel arbitrator of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), designated by the Chairman of the ICSID Administrative Council;.
• external International Finance Corporation (IFC) alternate member of the World Bank's Sanctions Board;
• Council Member of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Committee (CIETAC);
• panel arbitrator of Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)
• She was Past Chairperson of Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC);  Past Vice President of the International Council of Commercial Arbitration (ICCA); Past Vice President of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbitration; Past President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), a previous member of its Board of Trustees, and a past Chairman of its East Asia Branch.

 

Ms Cheng was awarded with the Gold Bauhinia Star award by the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR for her contribution and service to Hong Kong in 2011. She is currently:
