Jason joined Chambers in 2023 following completion of pupillage with Mr Derek Chan SC, Mr Christopher Chain SC, Mr Alexander Tang and Mr Jason Yu. Jason is developing a broad civil practice and accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work. He has appeared as sole advocate and as led junior at various levels of Court and in arbitration proceedings.

Jason ranked first overall in his LLB degree at the University of Hong Kong – having spent a year as a visiting student at the University of Oxford. He then read the BCL at the University of Oxford on the Merton Lawyers’ BCL Scholarship and the DVC Oxford Scholarship, before obtaining the PCLL with Distinction at the University of Hong Kong.

During his studies, Jason received a string of scholarships and prizes in recognition of his academic achievements, including the Thomson Reuters Law Prize (for the most promising candidate who intends to be a barrister) and the Sweet & Maxwell Edlyn Yap Prize for Litigation (for achieving the highest average mark in litigation-specific courses).

Jason is currently a part-time Lecturer (Non-Clinical) in Equity and Trusts at the University of Hong Kong. His work has been published in a number of international and local peer-reviewed journals.

  • Re Shandong Chenming Paper Holdings Ltd [2024] 2 HKLRD 1040, [2024] HKCA 352: Successfully resisted an appeal on whether winding-up petition should be stayed pending arbitration and whether Guy Lam applies to cross-claims (led by Mr Victor Joffe SC, with Mr Alexander Tang)
  • Re Ho Wing Hung (HCB 418/2024): Acted for petitioner in bankruptcy proceedings (sole counsel)

 

Civil & Commercial

  • China Merchants Bank Co Ltd v. Nan Hai Corp Ltd v. China CITIC Bank International Ltd (garnishee)(HCA 822/2022): Successfully acted for garnishee bank in an application to set aside garnishee order absolute arising from an underlying HK$400 million dispute (sole counsel)
  • China CITIC Bank International Ltd v. China Will Enterprise Ltd & Ors [2024] HKCFI 1859: Acted for Plaintiff Bank in resisting application to set aside default judgment for HK$50 million (sole counsel)
  • Li Yuhong v. oOo Securities (HK) Group Ltd [2024] HKCFI 2253: Claims for misrepresentation and mismanagement with respect to investment products; successfully applied for leave to amend statement of claim in the vicinity of trial (with Ms Eva Leung)
  • Low Bee Leng v. Highland Aluminium Co Ltd (HCA 1809/2022): Successful application for security for costs (sole counsel)
  • Donora Co Ltd v. Incorporated Owners of Tsuen Kam Centre (FACV 6/2023): Building management; acted for Respondent in a hearing of Notice of Motion at the Court of Final Appeal (led by Mr Denis Chang SC)
  • Mao Junjie v. King Pak Fu (HCA 1167/2024): Proprietary claim and claim for breach of trust with respect to insurance policy; application for interim proprietary injunction (with Ms Eva Leung)
  • Paramount Credit (HK) Ltd v. Ground Investment Holding Group (Hong Kong) Co Ltd (HCA 2260/2019): Successfully obtained final judgment in enforcing Tomlin order (with Mr Lai Chun Ho)
  • Welly Grace Ltd v. Keung Yee Man (HCA 649/2023): Successful application for garnishee orders and variation of Mareva and proprietary injunctions in enforcing a HK$160 million judgment (sole counsel)

  • Credit One Finance Ltd v. Lok Pak Fung (HCA 1486/2022): Successfully resisted joinder application (led by Mr Christopher Chain SC)
  • Maxcolm Finance Ltd v. Strong Delights Ltd (HCMP 1087/2023): Acted for mortgagee in O.88 mortgage action for HK$25 million; successfully obtained summary disposal of OS and final judgment (sole counsel)
  • Yuen Yee Fan v. Chau Yuen Yuen (HCA 99/2017): Acting for purchaser in property dispute (led by Mr Christopher Chain SC)

 

Arbitration

  • HKIAC arbitration (2024): Acting for claimant in a joint venture dispute (led by Mr Victor Joffe SC, with Mr Alexander Tang)
  • HKIAC arbitration (2023): Successfully acted for PRC-based investment companies in a US$18 million claim against a PRC property developer and its officers and US subsidiaries (with Mr Adrian Lai, JP)

 

Regulatory

  • Acting for controller and directors of authorized insurer in Insurance Appeals Tribunal proceedings in an application for review of the Insurance Authority’s decision (led by Dr William Wong SC, JP, with Ms Eva Leung)
