The Society of Construction Law Hong Kong One Day International Conference 2025 was held at the Hong Kong Football Club with full-house attendance today, with this year’s theme centered on “Innovation in Construction: How the Industry is Adapting to the Challenges and Opportunities of the Current Environment.”
Calvin Cheuk took part as a panel speaker in the session on “CISOPO – Adapting to the challenges and opportunities at the Front End”. The panel, moderated by James Niehorster (Pacific Chambers), also featured distinguished speakers including Franki Yeung (Hong Kong Housing Society), John McMillan (Gammon Construction Limited), and Gisele Vanderweerden (King & Wood Mallesons).
During the panel discussion, the speakers delved into the intricacies of the key provisions of the new Construction Industry Security of Payment Ordinance (“CISOPO”). Drawing from their extensive legal expertise, they explored the practical challenges involved in implementing the CISOPO and provided insightful perspectives on its future impact on the construction industry. As the industry begins to adapt to these new regulations, the speakers also shared their perspectives on how CISOPO will shape the future of construction law, offering a glimpse into potential developments and adjustments expected in the years ahead.
