Profile

Alex is a Bar Scholar and a Middle Temple Scholar. He served pupillage under Mr Christopher Chain SC, Mr Marco Li, Mr John Hui, and Mr Justin Lam. He accepts instructions across Chambers’ core areas of work.

Alex has appeared as sole advocate before the Court of Appeal, the Court of First Instance, and the District Court for various substantive applications. He is equally comfortable working in larger counsel teams. Alex’s clients range from banks, financial institutions, and ultra-high net worth individuals to state-owned enterprises, governmental agencies, and educational institutions.

Alex is also often instructed to act for or against Main Board-listed companies, including Asia Television, China Financial Services Holdings, China Huajun, China Oceanwide, China Zenith, Greatview Aseptic Packaging, National United Resources, etc.

Outside court, Alex acts both led and unled in English and Chinese-language arbitrations. He has also provided expert evidence on Hong Kong law for use in Mainland proceedings.

Before coming to the Bar, Alex obtained the BBA(Law) and LLB (ranking 1st overall in both) from HKU, and the BCL from Oxford. He was awarded more than 20 scholarships and prizes for academic achievement. His academic writing has been published in the Law Quarterly Review, Legal Studies, and Trusts & Trustees. He is currently a part-time lecturer at the HKU Law Faculty, teaching Equity & Trusts and Introduction to Private Law.

Alex is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. He is experienced in drafting legal documents in both simplified and traditional Chinese.
