Des Voeux Chambers was delighted to co-organise a seminar entitled “Recent Developments in Family Arbitration & Trust Arbitration” together with the Hong Kong Family Law Association, the Institute of Private Family Adjudicators Hong Kong and South China International Arbitration Center Hong Kong, at SCIAHK’s newly-renovated premises.
The seminar brought together more than 160 judges, arbitrators, practitioners and academics from Hong Kong and overseas. We were honoured in particular to have the Rt Hon the Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, GBS, former President of the UK Supreme Court and a Non-Permanent Judge of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal, as the keynote speaker. His Lordship’s address was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Professor Anselmo Reyes SC, with Mr Stuart Isaacs KC, Professor Kelvin Low and Ms Corinne Remedios.
The discussion considered the scope for arbitration in family and trust disputes, the position of beneficiaries and other non-signatories, confidentiality and disclosure, court supervision, and the recognition and enforcement of awards. The event reflected the value of bringing together the family, trusts and arbitration communities to consider how these developing areas may evolve in Hong Kong.
DVC is grateful to our fellow co-organisers as well as our speakers, guests and all who contributed to such a well-attended evening.
