Jonathan joined Chambers in 2020 upon completion of his pupillage with Mr Peter Duncan SC, Mr Christopher Chain SC, Mr Jason Yu and Mr Justin Lam.

Jonathan has a broad civil and commercial practice in both litigation and arbitration and accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work. He has been involved in cases primarily concerning company and bankruptcy law, commercial law and intellectual property law. He has appeared in the District Court, Court of First Instance and Court of Appeal both as a sole advocate and junior counsel and has been instructed for both Chinese and English language litigation and arbitrations. 

Notable cases of his include Indian Overseas Bank v Seabulk Systems Inc. Anors [2024] HKCA 522, where he acted as sole advocate before the Court of Appeal in an appeal concerning principles on the duty to perfect security, China Shanshui Cement Group Ltd v Zhang Caikui Anors [2025] HKCFI 1868, where he represented (led by Rachel Lam SC, with David Chen) a Hong Kong listed company engaged in the production of clinker and cement in a 32-day commercial trial in the Court of First Instance, and Buildtech Enterprise International Ltd Anors v OK Construction Materials (Supply) Co Ltd [2025] HKCFI 1133, where he represented (led by Winnie Tam SC) the respondent in one of the few trials before the Court of First Instance on the invalidation of trade marks. He has also provided written expert opinions on Hong Kong law for the Singapore and PRC courts. He is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin and speaks basic French.

Before joining the Bar, Jonathan graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA (Law) with Double First-Class Honours, having obtained a number of awards and reached the semi-finals of the BPP-OUP National Mooting Competition (representing the University of Cambridge). He went on to obtain the BCL from the University of Oxford with distinction. He has published articles and case notes in a number of peer-reviewed law journals. He is also a Bar Scholar.

Jonathan has been a part-time Lecturer (Non-Clinical) at the Department of Law, University of Hong Kong, having previously taught Equity & Trusts and the Law of Contract.
