DVC-HKIAC Joint Seminar on the Interplay between Arbitration and Insolvency Concludes with in-depth Discussions

Co-organised by Des Voeux Chambers (DVC) and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) , a special DVC Legal Series seminar titled “Interplay between Arbitration and Insolvency” recently concluded, bringing together more than 120 legal professionals for an evening of insightful discussion and exchange.

The seminar opened with welcome remarks from Mr Victor Dawes BBS, SC, Co-Chair of HKIAC, emphasising the importance of continued dialogue on arbitration and insolvency.

A dynamic panel discussion followed, moderated by Mr José Maurellet SC, senior counsel of DVC, with panelists including The Honourable Mr Justice Jonathan Harris, Dr Min Kyung Kim, Independent Neutral at DVC, Ms Sun Huawei, Vice-Chair of HKIAC, and Mr Thomas Walsh, Vice-Chair of HKIAC. Drawing on common and civil law perspectives, the panelists examined divergent approaches in key cases from Hong Kong, the UK and Singapore, and discussed their implications for cross-border insolvency and arbitration.

The seminar concluded with an engaging Q&A session, with participants exchanging views with the panelists on practical issues arising from the intersection of arbitration and insolvency.
