30 Oct 2024

We are pleased to share the publication of the 4th Edition of Butterworths Hong Kong Trade Marks Law Handbook, which is updated by Stephanie Wong from Des Voeux Chambers.

This handbook aims to consolidate and update the Trade Marks Ordinance (Cap 559) in a convenient form. Its annotations cover significant judicial decisions, rules of court, definitions of words and phrases, discussions on practical aspects, contentious issues, and other authoritative materials. This handbook is critical to the arsenal of any IP lawyer, marketer, company director, IP professional, in-house counsel, PR company, company secretary, student and those engaged or interested in the design, preparation, registration and enforcement of trade marks in Hong Kong.

Trade marks, be it registered or unregistered, are widely recognised of as integral components of an intellectual property portfolio, largely contributing to commercialisation strategies. The inherent commercial value of branding frequently leads to ambiguities that can give rise to disputes, which may substantially affect the competitive landscape and edge among market participants. For intellectual property practitioners in Hong Kong, trademark related matters often represent the most lucrative facet of their practise, underscoring the weight of diligent trademark management and enforcement.
