On 14 June, the 8th edition of SHIAC Talk, entitled “The Evolving Landscape of International Arbitration” Roundtable Seminar, was successfully held at the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (Shanghai International Arbitration Centre, “SHIAC”). The seminar was conducted both online and offline, attracting 60 professionals from law firms, law schools, and enterprises to participate on-site, with over 5,000 audience viewing online.
Cherry Xu from Des Voeux Chambers was invited as a guest speaker, alongside Mr Chan Leng Sun SC from Duxton Hill Chambers, Mr Nathaniel Lai from Duxton Hill Chambers, and Mr Armstrong Chen from Dentons Shanghai. The panel gathered to discuss the latest developments in the field of international arbitration. The conference provided insights into the strategic adjustments necessary in a changing environment, as well as the new opportunities and potential challenges in the field.
Cherry provided an in-depth analysis of initiating individual arbitration under multiple contracts and elaborated on the compatibility of arbitration clauses. During the discussion session, she exchanged views on confidentiality, res judicata, estoppel, and other practical issues of arbitration with legal practitioners and experts from China, Japan, Spain, and other countries.
SHIAC TALK is an expert seminar programme established by SHIAC in April 2023, which has successfully held eight thematic events so far. These include “China-France Business Salon”, “Personal Data Protection in Investment Arbitration”, “Cross-Border Litigation and Arbitration”, “Harmonisation of Private International Law”, “International Investment Dispute Resolution”, and “Institutional Innovation of the New Company Law”. These events have attracted hundreds of participants from home and abroad, effectively establishing a professional exchange platform with an international vision to serve the arbitration legal professional community.
