The Hon. Paul T K Lam, SBS, SC, JP led a 120-strong delegation to promote Hong Kong legal services to the cities of the Western provinces of Mainland China. DVC members Winnie Tam SC, Jose Maurellet SC, Sabrina Ho and Michael Lok lent their staunch support in person.
The high-level event was jointly organised by the Department of Justice, the Department of Justice of Shaanxi Province, and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government, and supported by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Xi’an Municipal People’s Government, and was attended by over 800 lawyers and business executives. The strategic role of Hong Kong legal services in assisting Enterprises in setting sail for overseas markets was the theme of the Forum. The connections made in such an ancient but modern setting of Xi’ an were very much treasured.
Under the theme “Serving the Belt and Road Initiative: A New Chapter in Shaanxi-Hong Kong Cooperation”, the Forum explored issues of interest to Shaanxi enterprises as they “go global” in handling trade, commerce and foreign investment under the Belt and Road Initiative. The Forum also introduced the international legal and dispute resolution services which Hong Kong can offer as a “super connector” for cross-border transactions and as a centre for dispute resolution services. The Minister of Justice, Ms He Rong, the Secretary of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee, Mr Zhao Yide, and the Secretary for Justice Mr Paul Lam SC also attended the Forum and delivered opening addresses.
Heartfelt thanks to the Department of Justice and all other organizers and co-organizers for this thoughtful organizing and strong support in advancing legal cooperation and exchange between Shaanxi and Hong Kong. Looking forward to continuing to provide professional legal services for Mainland enterprises to “go global”.
