Duncan specialises in commercial litigation and arbitration, with particular expertise in commercial law, civil fraud, company, partnership and insolvency, and trusts litigation. Duncan was called to the English Bar in 2012, and practices from Maitland Chambers in London. He has appeared in tribunals at all levels, including the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, and regularly acts in jurisdiction disputes and applications for urgent interim relief. Matters on which Duncan is instructed often involve international parties. Proficient in Mandarin, he is able to work with untranslated Chinese documents.
Duncan is ranked in the leading legal directories in England across multiple practice areas and is recognised for his advocacy. His clients span a wide range of industry sectors, including financial services, media and entertainment, real estate, natural resources and technology.
Duncan read Chinese at St John’s College, Cambridge, spending a year at Peking University and two months at Taiwan Normal University on a government scholarship. He later completed the GDL at City University in London with distinction, coming third in the year overall and first in Equity and Trusts. During his legal studies, he was awarded numerous scholarships, including the Lord Haldane, Hardwicke and Lord Denning Scholarships from Lincoln’s Inn, and the McMahon Law Studentship from Cambridge.
