11 Sept 2025

Jenkin Suen SC recently served as a Faculty member and trainer of the renowned South Eastern Circuit, Tim Dutton CBE KC, Advanced International Advocacy Course held at Keble College, Oxford between 26 and 30 August 2025.

The aim of this course is to encourage and develop the highest standards of advocacy amongst practitioners in London and the South East, and the course is the most demanding and intensive of any advocacy course in the UK. It is a five-day residential programme, featuring advanced advocacy training in all aspects, canvassing closing addresses; case analysis; witness examination; appellate advocacy; and expert evidence (played by real world experts from Deloitte).

The course attracts participants from all over the world, most being barristers and advocates of around 10 years’ call. They are put in small groups supervised by members of the distinguished faculty comprising Court of Appeal and High Court judges, leading silks and seasoned advocates from the UK and the common law world including Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong trainers comprise the Hon. Mr. Justice Coleman, the Hon. Mrs. Justice Campbell-Moffat (retired) and Jenkin Suen SC of Des Voeux Chambers, whilst participants from Hong Kong include barristers, arbitrators and counsels within the Department of Justice.

Aside from intensive training, participants and trainers alike build friendship, exchange thoughts and share invaluable experience during communal breakfasts, lunches and dinners in Keble’s Hogwartian dining hall and end-of-day drinks at the college bar. The Keble Advanced Advocacy Course presents a truly remarkable experience and builds rapport and camaraderie within the international advocacy community, across jurisdictions and practices.
