26 Sept 2025

The third edition of DVC Trusts, Estates, and Succession Series took place yesterday at the DVC Conference Centre, drawing nearly 60 practitioners from the trusts and estates sector.

Entitled “Keeping It Within the Family? Administration of Estates Involving Valuable Family Companies”, the panel featured distinguished speakers, including Bebe Chu, Retired Judge of the Court of First Instance, High Court HKSAR; Sherlynn Chan, Partner at Deacons, and Chua Guan Hock SC and Arthur Poon from DVC. Kerby Lau moderated the session.

The discussion centered on the recent decision in Jacky Zong v Kelly Fuli Zong [2025] HKCFI 3355, alongside other notable cases from common law jurisdictions. The panel illuminated key aspects of estate planning and litigation involving family companies, addressing critical issues such as their establishment, governance, asset distribution, gifting strategies, and succession planning. They also examined legal proceedings and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, offering valuable insights drawn from their extensive professional experience.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our esteemed speakers and all attendees for their meaningful contributions. We look forward to building on the rich professional dialogue and insights shared during this engaging exploration of trusts and estates law.
