DVC Welcomes Three New Tenants

Des Voeux Chambers is delighted to announce that all three of its nine-month pupils – Paul Law, Regina Yip and Valerie Kwok – have accepted offers to join Chambers as tenants, following successful completion of their pupillages.

 

Paul Law

Paul is a Bar Scholar. He graduated with First Class Honours in his LLB degree at the University of Hong Kong and achieved distinction for his PCLL. He went on to obtain the LLM from the University of Cambridge with First Class Honours, ranking first in his college. During his studies, Paul was awarded various academic and mooting prizes. His academic work has also been published in peer-reviewed journals in Hong Kong, Australia and the United Kingdom.

During limited practice, Paul was instructed as sole counsel in substantive applications in the High Court. He has also been appointed as a part-time lecturer (non-clinical) at University of Hong Kong teaching Commercial Law.

 

Regina Yip

Regina ranked first overall in her LLB class at University College London. She then obtained the BCL from the University of Oxford. During her studies, she was awarded multiple academic prizes and scholarships, including the Andrews Medal & Prize (for the top graduate), Sweet & Maxwell Prize (for the top finalist), the DVC BCL Scholarship and the DVC Harry Liu Postgraduate Scholarship.

During limited practice, Regina has already had experience appearing in court, including as a led advocate before the Court of Appeal and as a sole advocate before the High Court. Alongside her practice, Regina will also serve as a part-time lecturer (non-clinical) at the University of Hong Kong teaching Equity and Trusts.

 

Valerie Kwok

Valerie read law at the University of Oxford, fully sponsored by prizes and scholarships (including the D.H. Chen Foundation Scholarship, Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme, and DVC Harry Liu Postgraduate Scholarship). Having graduated with a First Class BA in Jurisprudence, she stayed on to read for the Bachelor of Civil Law, winning the John Morris Prize for the best performance in the Conflict of Laws across the cohort.

During her studies, Valerie represented the University of Oxford at top mooting competitions, winning prizes including Regional Champion of the Price Media Law Moot. She went on to coach the HKU team for an international moot. She has written and presented on topics across commercial law, including at the University of Western Australia’s Private and Commercial Law Conference.

During her limited practice, Valerie has experience appearing before the High Court, both in trial and for interlocutory application.
