Four New Tenants at Des Voeux Chambers

Des Voeux Chambers is delighted to announce that all four of its nine-month pupils – Billy Liu, Charlie Liu, Clara Wong and Joshua Yeung – have accepted offers to join Chambers as tenants, following successful completion of their pupillages.

 

Billy Liu

Billy graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with First Class Honours in LLB and Distinction in PCLL. He then read LLM at the University of Cambridge, where he obtained first class result in the International Financial Law paper. During his studies, Billy received various scholarships and awards, including the Mr H.C. Ho Memorial Scholarship for Constitutional Law and the LexisNexis Prize in Hong Kong Legal System. He also won the championship in the Hughes Hall Mooting Competition before Lord Carnwath JSC in the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.

 

Charlie Liu

Charlie graduated at the top of his class with his LLB from the University of Hong Kong – having spent a year as a visiting student at the University of Cambridge. He later obtained his BCL with distinctions in all subjects from the University of Oxford and was ranked first in Advanced Property and Trusts and Comparative Corporate Law. During his studies, Charlie received multiple scholarships and prizes in recognition of his academic achievements, including the DVC Junior Scholarship, the DVC BCL Scholarship and the Harry Liu Postgraduate Scholarship. Charlie speaks native Mandarin and is a top scorer in the National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao) in Shanghai. During his limited practice, Charlie appeared as a led junior before the Appeal Committee of the Court of Final Appeal and the Court of First Instance.

 

Clara Wong

Clara is a Bar Scholar. After graduating with First Class Honours (ranked second overall) in her LLB degree at the University of Hong Kong, Clara pursued her BCL at the University of Oxford as a Hong Kong Scholar, where she obtained Overall Distinction and was awarded the Oxford Law Faculty Prize in Commercial Remedies. During her studies, she received a string of academic prizes and scholarships, including the Society of Construction Law Hong Kong Scholarship and a full HSBC Overseas Scholarship for her 1-year exchange at the University of Oxford. Clara has also earned various prizes in international and domestic moot competitions. During her limited practice, Clara has appeared before the High Court both in her own right and as a led junior.

 

Joshua Yeung

Joshua is a Bar Scholar. He ranked first in his LLB Class at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and later obtained an LLM with First Class Honours from the University of Cambridge. As a student, Joshua received various scholarships and prizes for academic excellence and achievements in debating and mooting, including the 3rd Best Oralist (Global Rounds) of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. He also published several articles in international peer-reviewed journals. Joshua has already had experience appearing in Court during limited practice, including as a led advocate before the Court of Appeal.
