HK45 hosted its Annual Update last week (21 March 2024) to discuss topical developments in arbitration over the past year, including recent decisions by Hong Kong courts on the enforcement of arbitral awards, the interplay between arbitration and insolvency, changes in the PRC foreign immunity law and issues concerning conflicts of interest and arbitrator disclosure.
HK45’s Sicen (Esther) Hu kicked off the event with her opening remarks. In the Panel Discussion moderated by Franklin Koo (Judiciary) and Sui-Hang Hui (Sidley Austin), Kaiser Leung dissected a number of recent decisions where the Hong Kong Court has refused enforcement of arbitral awards and explored how these decisions are to be understood under the Arbitration Regime in Hong Kong.
Kaiser has the pleasure of being joined on the Panel by Xiongchao (Peter) Chen (Fangda Partners), Dominique Yong (Clifford Chance) and Janice Cheng (Hogan Lovells). This was followed by a dynamic Q&A session discussing various interesting and important practical issues that arise in arbitration.
HK45 is a group for young arbitration practitioners in Hong Kong and beyond formed under the auspices of the HKIAC. It aims to promote interest in and knowledge of arbitration issues and to provide opportunities for both professional development and social interaction.
