Last week, Des Voeux Chambers had the pleasure hosting the visit of 40 legal professionals from National Training Course for Talents Handling Foreign-Related Arbitration (Hong Kong) (second edition), mainly in-house counsel, arbitrators, lawyers, and arbitration practitioners from mainland Chinese enterprises. This course was jointly organised by the Ministry of Justice of China and the Hong Kong International Legal Talents Training Academy (HKITTLA) under the Hong Kong Department of Justice.
Winnie Tam SC, Frances Lok SC and Adrian Lai led an engaging panel discussion with the delegation, addressing key challenges faced by mainland enterprises in the operation of international commercial and investment arbitration, as well as the practices of arbitration in both Hong Kong and the Mainland. DVC member Kevin Lau also attended the training course.
The exchange deepened mutual understanding between Hong Kong and the Mainland in the field of international dispute resolution and laid the groundwork for future collaboration. It helped strengthen mainland enterprises’ ability to manage disputes as they expanded globally, better preparing them to navigate legal challenges in international markets.

On the same day, Adrian was invited to lead a seminar for the delegation on the interaction between Hong Kong courts and arbitration. Through the analysis of practical case studies and key legal provisions, Adrian provided participants with a deeper understanding of the mechanisms by which Hong Kong courts support arbitration.
At Des Voeux Chambers, we remain dedicated to harnessing Hong Kong’s international legal expertise to support the development of foreign-related legal talent and enhance cross-border dispute resolution mechanisms.
